Russian armors X-XVII enturies the helmets
By shelom (helmet) - this is military head-gear with the high kolokolovidnoy crown of a hat and the long spire ("navershiyem"). The helmets of dome-like and spheroconical form were disseminated in Russia. Above helmets frequently finished by the bushing, which was sometimes supplied with flag - "yalovtsom". In the early time the helmets were done from several (two or four) parts, riveted between themselves. There are helmets, also, in one part of metal.The need of strengthening the shielding properties of helmet led to the appearance of the krutobokikh dome-shaped helmets nanosnikom or by half-mask, which got down from the forehead to the nose. These parts of the helmet so were called: "nose" and "mask". The neck of soldier concealed the grid, made from the same rings as hauberk - "barmitsa". It was fastened to the helmet from behind and it was lateral. In rich soldiers the helmets were finished by silver and gold, and were sometimes pillar those plate with goldd.
Old-Russian legends recall about the helmets in the very poetic form: "let us sit down, bratiye, to our borzi of komoni, ispiyem, bratiye, shelomom by our of water of the rapid Don, ispytyem swords our Damascus steel" ("Zadonshchina").
